Carolyn Rhoads is a painter and printmaker who lives in Maine, where she serves as Director of the Denmark Arts Center. She has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and Providence College, as well as teaching for arts associations in Maine and New Hampshire. Her work has been represented by galleries in Maine, Oregon, Atlanta, Birmingham and Newport and has been in exhibits at the Museum of Art in Portland, Oregon, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and the Maine Center for Contemporary Art. Carolyn works in several mediums, including oil painting, etching, linocut and pastel. She enjoys doing both landscapes and images of people. The artist grew up in a family of art lovers on the beautiful coast of Oregon. She studied drawing, painting and etching at the Pacific Northwest College of Art (formerly called the Museum Art School) in Portland, Oregon. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Over the years, Carolyn's work has evolved from minimalist prints, paintings and collages to more realistic images of people and landscapes that are meaningful to her. She trys to find joy in small, everyday things and appreciates the ability of art to express beauty, emotion and various aspects of the human condition. |
